Requirement
The Electricity At Work Regulations 1989 places legal responsibility on the owner of the electrical installation to prevent electrical accidents. The regulations call for all electrical systems to be maintained in a safe condition so that individual users may be protected from electrical shock or fire hazards.
Fixed Wire Testing involves the inspection and testing of the electrical systems that conduct electricity around a building. It includes all of the hard wiring in a building and items such as main panels, distribution boards, lighting, socket outlets, air conditioning and other fixed plant.

Following a visual appraisal, test procedures are applied where appropriate, in order to ascertain the safety of electrical installation. Anything that is found to be unsafe will be resolved immediately; ensuring the safety of your team and total compliance.
A detailed Periodic Inspection Report is supplied and your engineer will talk through the results.

Periodic Electrical Inspection & Testing should be considered:
· To verify continued compliance with the Electricity at Work Act and Health & Safety
· Through deterioration of electrical installations due to a number of factors, such as damage, corrosion, excessive electrical loading, wear, tear and ageing to the fixed wiring system
· If there is a change of ownership or tenancy of premises
· When there is a change of use for a premises
· Where there are significant changes in the electrical loading of the installation
· Where there is reason to believe that damage may have been caused to the installation
· To comply with insurance company requirements, as this could affect your insurance cover
To reduce the risk of injury or death through electrical failure all non-domestic electrical installations should be subject to a regular electrical testing service to complying with current legislation.
All of our engineers are qualified to City & Guilds 1 & 2, City & Guilds 2377, 2391 electrical inspection & testing standard and the 17th Edition wiring regulations. Offing an electrical testing service designed to deliver your electrical periodic testing in a way that best suits your situation.
There are many good reasons for adopting electrical periodic testing for your fixed wiring installation. You may need to inspect and test to comply with the IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition. Or if you have recently acquired ownership or tenancy of business / workplace premises you may wish to have electrical safety testing to ensure the installation is safe. If you suspect there is a fault or risk of failure, you must take steps to inspect the affected circuits urgently.
Maximum periods allowed between Periodic Inspections:
· Commercial Installations - 5 years
· Industrial Installations - 3 years
· Buildings open to the public - 1 year
· External Installations - 3 years
· Caravan Parks - 1 year
· Fire Alarms - 1 year
· Short Term Installations - 3 months
· Site Installations - 3 months
From 1st July 2008 any installation that has an electrical test, designed or constructed will have to comply with the 17th Edition of BS7671:2008 wiring regulations changed.
To bring them in line with European standards the additional requirements are wide ranging. Any engineers carrying out an electrical testing service for fixed installation testing should have the upgraded qualification.
